Application areas

The exceptional structural, physical and chemical properties of the boron diamond powder (MCDP) fabricated by NNT Ar-Ge yield numerous fascinating application areas for this nano-structured material. Some of these are shown in the table below. The NNT Nanotechnlogy AG as distribution partner of NNT Ar-Ge plans to offer in the near future high-quality products for as many of these application areas as possible.

Application area Advantages when using MCDP
Electrochemical and chemical co-deposition of MCDP with metals
  • superior wear-resistance in plated films,
  • superior micro-hardness,
  • improved corrosion stability of plated layers,
  • low porosity of metallic layer,
  • sharply reduced friction coefficient of plated deposits,
  • improvement of adhesion and cohesion,
  • high throwing power of electrolytes.
MCDP in polymers
  • reduced friction coefficient in contact with metals,
  • higher elasticity and strength,
  • decreased permeability (hydrocarbons, polar solvents),
  • increased chemical resistance in acidic or alkaline media,
  • increased elongation and elastic modulus of elastomers.
MCDP in lubricants, greases and lubricating cooling liquids
  • increased life span of vehicles and machines,
  • longer maintenance intervals,
  • reduced frictional heat and, thus, power consumption,
  • significantly reduced friction oxydation and abrasion.
MCDP in micro-abrasive and polishing compositions
  • tiny MCDP particles ensure minimum surface roughness,
  • stock removal during polishing is small,
  • clean surface due to ion-exchange and adsorption properties of MCDP,
  • non-toxic.
MCDP in magnetic recording systems
  • addition of MCDP to a ferromagnetic layer reduces its domain size à recording density is increased,
  • higher life time of magnetic heads,
  • higher resistance to wear,
  • reduced friction coefficient of CoP-MCDP films.
MCDP in biological applications
  • adsorption capabilities of MCDP allow to produce effective absorbers for pathogenic viruses, microbes and bacteria.
MCDP in metal alloys
  • increased tensile strength, hardness and plasticity.
MCDP in abrasive tools
  • efficient and longlasting tools for carbide metal working.
